FAQ
Common questions
- How much power does an ND1 tune add?
- About 10 kW and 15 Nm at the wheels. On a naturally aspirated engine that's small, and we'd rather you knew before booking. The reason to tune an ND1 is how it drives: the tune fills the torque dip around 4,000 rpm, sharpens throttle response, stops the low-rpm surging, and raises the rev limit. RZ Stage 1 is $1,895 with the EcuTek licence included.
- What's the torque dip at 4,000 rpm?
- A flat spot in the middle of the rev range. The engine pulls, goes soft around 4,000 rpm, then picks up again. It comes from the factory calibration, not the hardware, so RZ Stage 1 fills it in without any parts.
- What does RZ Stage 2 add?
- A 4-2-1 header with a high-flow cat, an HKS Legamax cat-back, and an intake, tuned together on the dyno. That takes it to about 15 kW and 25 Nm at the wheels over stock.
- Which cat-back do you fit?
- HKS Legamax: the Premium on the Roadster, the Sports on the RF. Both are SUS304 stainless. The Premium is tuned to keep cabin drone down on a daily driver, and HKS rates the RF system at 88 dB at idle, one over stock.
- Can I start with RZ Stage 1 and add RZ Stage 2 later?
- Yes. RZ Stage 2 is RZ Stage 1 plus the header, exhaust, and intake. Your EcuTek licence carries over, and we retune the car for the new parts.
- Turbo or supercharger for RZ Stage 3?
- Both work on the ND1. The right one depends on your power target, your budget, and whether the car lives on the road or the track. We spec the kit and supporting parts around your car, so RZ Stage 3 is quoted per build. About 80 kW and 120 Nm at the wheels over stock is typical.
- Do you work on older MX-5s?
- Yes. The NB in our dyno results made 201.8 kW and 344.3 Nm at the wheels on 98, with a Garrett GTX2860R, forged internals, and a Haltech Elite 1500. Older cars are quoted per build.
